“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Matthew 6:12 NASB

The righteous person prays for forgiveness. He owes a legal debt to God for his sins, the wrong things he has done and the right things he has not done. Ultimately this spiritual debt can only be paid by the blood of Jesus shed on Calvary. The righteous person recognizes his sin, his inability to pay for that sin, and his forgiveness for that sin that is only through Jesus. Since the righteous person has been forgiven by God, he must forgive others of their debts to him.

Lord Jesus, I realize I am a sinner and that my debts have been paid for by Your death on the cross. Help me to show others this same grace and mercy.
