“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6 NASB

The fourth Beatitude describes a disciple as one who hungers and thirsts for righteousness. This disciple craves righteousness as much as a starving person craves food. The psalmist describes this desire as one yearning for water in a dry and weary land. (Psalm 63:1) With all his being, the disciple yearns to do what is right in God’s sight. He seeks to obey God in every aspect of his life. Not only to do the right thing, but he desires to do the right thing for the right reason, and that reason is to please God. The result of this yearning is the disciple will be satisfied. God will gratify this spiritual hunger with good things.

Lord Jesus, I desire to live for You. Strengthen that desire until it is an all-consuming craving to live righteously in Your sight.
