Greater Love
John 15:13

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13 NASB

The ultimate demonstration of love is laying down one’s life for a friend. Jesus gave up His life, paying the ransom to redeem and save His friends, so that His friends would have life, everlasting, eternal life. Jesus’ command that His disciples love one another as He loved them must be understood in light of His sacrificial love. A disciple is to likewise love through giving his life in compassionate service for others. A disciple can demonstrate this love through caring, helping, supporting, encouraging, guiding, and teaching others.

Lord Jesus, in response to Your great love, help me to love through serving others, revealing Your mercy and grace.
