“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14 NASB

In Isaiah’s day this prophetic sign immediately confirmed to the king and the people of Israel that God would be with them in a special way during their time of crisis. The name Immanuel means God with us. The greater and ultimate prophetic fulfillment is found centuries later in the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, born of a virgin. In Matthew’s gospel the angel quoted Isaiah’s prophecy in proclaiming to Joseph that Mary would bear a special son. Jesus was and is God in human form. He is Immanuel, God with us.

Lord Jesus, I am especially reminded in this season of the year of the miraculous event of Your coming. God, born a baby in a manger, brought us salvation.
