The Flesh
Ephesians 2:3a

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.” Ephesians 2:3 NASB

One’s own personal fleshly nature is the third major force that influences and drives a person’s sinful lifestyle. The word “flesh” does not describe the physical body but the humanity, the spirit, the soul of the person, which is by nature sinful, craving after its own desires, passions, and wishes and not after God and His will. This nature defines one’s passions and lusts which are one’s deepest desires and yearnings of the heart and mind. The flesh supplies the inclination, the natural tendency, the propensity, the bent, towards sin.

Lord Jesus, my fleshly desires are great. Only in Your strength and grace can I walk in a lifestyle of righteousness.
