Pattern for Prayer: Yielding

“Thy kingdom come. . . . And lead us not into temptation.”
   Luke 11:2b, 4b NASB ©

Using the word PRAY as an acrostic, the letter “Y” stands for Yielding. Yielding is surrendering our lives to do God’s kingdom work and not following our selfish desires. When we pray for His kingdom work to be done, we are bringing our desires in tune with His desires and seeking His will to be done in our lives and around the world. When we pray for strength to avoid temptation, we are seeking to avoid things, places, or people that tempt us to do wrong. Thus, we are surrendering control of our lives to God letting Him guide us and determine our ways. The hymn writer stated it well, “Have Thine own way, Lord! . . . Mold me and make me after Thy will, While I am waiting, yielded and still.”

Lord Jesus, I yield my life, my wishes, my actions, and my thoughts to following Your ways. I want to be obedient to Your commands and to serve and honor You today.
