“Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5 NASB

The third Beatitude describes a disciple as one who is gentle and meek. This meekness is not being wimpy, weak, or cowardly. It is strength under control, just like a strong and mighty horse that has been broken and now can be ridden. This character quality describes a follower of Jesus who humbly submits to the Lord’s control. He does not choose his own path but is guided by the Holy Spirit. He is committed to obeying God’s commands. This meekness results in the disciple enjoying all the benefits and privileges of being God’s child, including the future inheritance of the earth.

Lord Jesus, teach me how to patiently follow You by obeying Your Word. I surrender all that I have and all that I am to be Your humble servant.
