Pattern for Prayer: Repenting

“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.”
   Luke 11:4 NIV ©

Using the word PRAY as an acrostic, the letter “R” stands for repenting. Repenting is turning our hearts and lives from worldliness to godliness. Everyone of us has sinned by living a worldly and selfish lifestyle. When we compare ourselves to the purity and holiness of God, we have all fallen well short of His godly perfection. We are to pray asking for God’s forgiveness. Though we are unworthy, God grants us forgiveness because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. In the same way, even though others are unworthy, we are to forgive them.

Lord Jesus, I desire to turn away from my own selfishness and to turn toward Your godly ways. Thank You for forgiving me, and help me to show others forgiveness when they have wronged me.
