God Chose and Predestined
Ephesians 1:4-5

The Upward Look
    by Max D. Hutto,

“For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will,” Ephesians 1:4-5 HCSB

For centuries scholars have wrestled with the depths of meaning in this passage and the tension that lies between the complex issues of God’s sovereignty in election and man’s free will. This great theological debate stretches beyond our human comprehension to resolve with complete satisfaction. In love God chose those who would believe before the foundation of the world. And in love God offers to every person the freedom to choose for themselves whether to receive or to reject His salvation. These two great truths must be accepted by faith.

Lord God, I marvel at the complexity of Your Word. That which I don’t fully understand, I accept by faith, trusting in Your love.
