“I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.” 2 Peter 1:13-14 NASB

Peter knew his earthly dwelling, his body, would soon be died. He had clearly heard what Jesus had said about the end of his life. This thought may be a reference to Jesus’ prophecy about Peter’s death, found in John 21:18-19, that when he grew old others would gird him and take him where he did not wish to go. Coming closer to the end of his life, Peter urgently wrote to remind the believers. Soon Peter would no longer be able to teach and preach the gospel of Christ or encourage the believers to stand true in the faith.

Lord Jesus, I know that life on this earth is short. Help me to remember to share the gospel with those who need to hear and to stand firm in the truth of Your Word, the Bible.
