“The end of all things is at hand; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.” 1 Peter 4:7 NASB

Reminding the believers that the second coming of Christ and the judgment was expected soon, Peter encouraged them to be calm and not worry as they pray. Despite the urgency of the end times, the believers were to keep “cool and calm” and to think clearly and sensibly. They were to be people of prayer, seeking God and His guidance and strength, especially in the face of suffering and persecution as the end drew near.

Lord Jesus, I desire to be a prayerful person who thinks clearly and rightly. Help me to focus on You even as the world comes closer to the day of judgment.
