“For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousals, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.” 1 Peter 4:3 NASB

The believer’s life should no longer be driven by human, fleshly, worldly, and pagan desires. That time has passed, and the believer should have no part of those passions. Peter’s list of worldly vices describes six specific sins. Sensuality describes sexual permissiveness and loose morality. Lust includes selfish gratification of sexual desires. Drunkenness, carousals, and drinking parties all convey different aspects of pleasure-seeking and abusive behaviors done in an alcoholic stupor. Abominable idolatries describe false religions that include lawless, unholy, and profane behavior.

Lord Jesus, I cringe when I see our culture so driven by sinful desires such as these Peter listed. I want no part in them. Instead my passion is to please and glorify You.
