“If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” 1 Peter 4:14 HCSB

Believers will be ridiculed and reviled because the evil world is opposed to and hates Jesus Christ. This verbal abuse includes unjust denunciations, insults, and slander. These hurtful words often cause more harm and suffering than physical abuse and persecution. Peter declares that these abused believers will be blessed as God’s Spirit will rest on them to comfort and strengthen them. Peter’s words reflect the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus says, “Blessed are you when men cast insults at you.” (Matthew 5:11)

Lord Jesus, when I am ridiculed and reviled because of You, help me to react and respond with Your grace and love. Help me to rest and be refreshed by Your Holy Spirit.
