“Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.” 1 Peter 4:1 NASB

Peter is referring back to the previous verses that deal with Christ’s suffering and His victory over sin and death. Believers are to have the same purpose as Christ. The idea of “arm” is to “put on”, just as a soldier would put on his armor as he prepared and armed himself for battle. Believers are to be equipped with the same purpose, the same resolve, the same attitude as Christ had. Though He suffered in the flesh, He had victory over sin.

Lord Jesus, I am determined that no matter what I may face that I will seek to follow You with all that I am. Give me strength to serve You with all my heart, soul, and might.
