“Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders whom I commanded to shepherd my people, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’” 1 Chronicles 17:6 NIV

While the main emphasis of this verse is that to this point in history God had not commanded His leaders to build Him a temple, a house of cedar, there are two other ideas that are worth noting. First, God directs His leaders to shepherd His people. Like a shepherd cares for his sheep, it is the task of leaders to guide and protect their flocks. Second, God wants to be among His people. He desires to be with us as we move and walk through life. He yearns for a close, personal, and intimate relationship with us.

Lord Jesus, because of Your sacrifice on the cross, I can know and experience a loving relationship with You. Guide me to a deeper understanding of Your love and grace.
