“When your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.” 1 Chronicles 17:11 NASB

As a minor point this verse gives some insights into the understanding of life and death. David’s life was to have only a limited number of days before it was “fulfilled.” God ultimately sets or allows the number of days in every life. Life and death are in His hands. The phrase “you must go to be with your fathers” teaches that death was not a cessation of life but a transition into eternity, heaven or hell, with those people who have gone before them.

Lord Jesus, because of You I know that when my time on earth is ended I will be in heaven. Help me to tell others how they too can be assured of their place in heaven.
